Graffiti in Guatemala

Currently in Guatemala is growing more and more movement Graffiti and Urban Art, there are always those who support this type of art but as elsewhere, there are those who decide to "fight" against those who just want to bring to life the city streets, regardless of the country, continent or city.

Today there are quite a few crews in the country, there are those who decide to stay alone and painting on his own account, the important thing is to make the movement grow, many are only dedicated to tagger or sign, others decide to paint only in legal places and most prefer to create a balance between legal and illegal, because the essence of this art lies in the illegality.

Unfortunately here, and I think in many other places, even graffiti associated with gangs rather a clear example of this is a short documentary that recently conducted Noti7, a local newscast, where the release of this was a crucial part to leave rather confused everyone with the same image that is gang graffiti.

The documentary shows some of that if you really are part of the artistic movement, the trouble is that the images of pieces and interviews with them were mixed with images of gang graffiti, which left us with a bitter taste to all who are part of the real graff community.

This is the video report of Noti7, judge for yourself:

As I said earlier, some people if they support this type of art and are not afraid to be different, a few weeks ago two crews in the country, and EKS GuateGraff were interviewed during the painting of the Labyrinth, located in the Cultural District 4 degrees north to make a short documentary of graffiti, this time we are not associated with gangs or anything similar.

This was done by students of the Universidad del Istmo in Guatemala, whom we thank for generating this type of material that discloses the true face of national graffiti.

This is the video report of students:

I think the difference is quite noticeable, I'll take the second, but I would like to know what you think of this no matter if they are Guatemalan or foreign, in your city happens something similar? How is the situation of the graff in your country, I want to hear your comments :)
